A Windy Wedding with Jocelyn and Bowie

Moab wedding at Red Earth Venue

Working with Jocelyn and Bowie was pure joy. They were both creative, flexible, easy-going, and had tons of friends who showed up to help with set up the day of the big party at the Red Earth Venue platform.

We teamed up with some of the best pros in Moab to pull off our windiest wedding of 2022. We secured tents and light posts to the ground, and as luck would have it, Bowie (our ever-talented groom) had forged a hefty and very sturdy wedding arch in the shape of a hexagon, which was solid and unmoving for the duration of the entire party. I was thrilled to see my work combined with his to create a beautiful and colorful frame for the ceremony, which was converted to an adorable swing for photos after the ceremony was over.

Our color palette included magenta, sage, periwinkle, peaches, and the full range of succulent pastels, including minty greens, powdery blues, and muted purples. We accented with some deeper burgundies, which really framed Jocelyn’s bouquet beautifully.

Jocelyn wanted to go simple and elegant for the tables, so to account for the potential of windy weather and tons of sunshine, we recommended succulent-filled terrariums (available for rent in their entirety, including the plants and the planting medium!), which complimented the geometric feel of the gorgeous arch. Jocelyn provided round mirrors, which we dressed with loose greens and scattered mercury glass votives on the tables to complete the look.

As we’d hoped for, the centerpieces were absolutely windproof and stayed exactly as they were supposed to as the afternoon gusts of wind powered through.

Moab Desert Wedding Conditions

Having a Moab wedding requires a lot of planning and consideration for the various elements you may not encounter elsewhere. Spring and fall in Moab, UT are the best and most popular seasons to get married. That’s because it’s absolutely breathtakingly beautiful with sweeping landscapes, perfect light, and ideal temps. But the weather can shift over the course of the day, leaving you susceptible to short bouts of strong winds or unexpected temperatures.

When you’re choosing your wedding vendors for your big day, make sure you’re choosing folks who are familiar with the area and know what to expect. There are tons of incredibly talented people working right here in town that are prepared for every contingency and committed to making your day absolutely perfect.

For Jocelyn and Bowie, the decision to go with low, wide, sturdy centerpieces paired with our ability to provide extra reinforcements for the arch decor made all the difference. Everyone walked away from this special day with smiles on their faces.

If you’re planning to have a party or get married in Moab this year, let’s get the ball rolling. We book six months to a year out. Tangled Sage offers full service florals and installations, rentals, signage, ceremony music, and more. We’d love to help you create the wedding or event of your dreams.
